When it comes to Salut d’Amour, Op.12, a musical work composed by the English reputed Sir Edward William Elgar, we can directly feel how sweet, steadfast, and everlasting love releases! Elgar achieved the piece in July 1888, when he was romantically involved with his fiancée, Caroline Alice Roberts. On their engagement, Elgar gave her Salut d’Amour as an engagement present. That's a good blessing to welcome such a sweet start of happy life.
Initially, Salut d’Amour was also called “Liebesgruss”(‘Love’s Greeting’) because of Miss Roberts’ fluency in German. "à Carice" of the dedication in French was so meaningful for Edward Elgar and Caroline Alice Roberts as their only daughter, Carice Irene Elgar was born on 14 August 1890, coming to their family. " Carice" was actually a combination of his wife's names Caroline Alice.
They felt God’s grace wrapped up in one family and Elgar filled with much joy and happiness soon wrote to a friend: “Carice is a most wonderfully lovely infant! Everyone turns to gaze at her as she ‘sweeps by in her chariot’-(i.e. perambulator). She is a sturdy little minx, noisy and as strong as a house, she has never been ill a day since she came! Isn’t that a blessing?”
SALUT D'AMOUR of JIM GATES R.H.C. conflates several sets of meaningful information to achieve such a unique fragrance. As soon as the top note stimulates our odor receptor, the answer to our memories as a baby is quite apparent! We are able to recall abundant stories, missing feelings images, or the power of love we need through the familiar scents dipping me into the sweet atmosphere making our mind stronger and stronger. Let's enter the sweet mind banquet to experience all we have desired for a long time!
In 1889, “Liebesgruss” was published by Schott & Co., a German publisher, and the first four editions were for violin and piano, piano solo, cello and piano, and for small orchestra. However, few copies were sold at the beginning. With Schott changing the title to “Salut d’Amour” with “Liebesgruss” as a sub-title along with the composer’s name as 'Ed. Elgar', successful selling totally turned the tables by releasing it not only in France but in other European countries. At a Crystal Palace concert, the first performance as the orchestral version conducted by August Manns took place in London on 11 November 1889.
